The city of Port Orchard has completed the $2.5 million purchase of the Kitsap Bank property at 619 Bay Street, which is slated to be the home of the future two-story South Kitsap Community Events Center.

The South Kitsap Community Center is several years away from becoming reality, but still making progress with a new round of designs recently unveiled. According to Port Orchard Mayor Rob Putaansuu, there’s been very positive feedback.

“One of the things we really heard from the public feedback was to provide a lot of covered outside space,” Tomisser said. “We want to be able to use this building year-round.” The $20 million, 24,000 square-foot community events center will prominently feature the Port Orchard branch of the Kitsap Regional Library on the lower level. Visitors will enter the building and walk into a shared space that includes a stairway to the second floor, public restrooms on the lower floor, and an entrance to the library.

Rice introduced design concepts at the Port Orchard City Council meeting on May 25. The South Kitsap Community Events Center is to sit at the current location of Kitsap Bank’s headquarters building on Bay Street in the downtown sector of the city, promising a sweeping view of Sinclair Inlet when finally completed.

KPFD AWARDS THE SKCEC UP TO $12 MILLION IN FUNDING

Board members voted unanimously to approve the funding through an interlocal agreement, or ILA, with the City of Port Orchard, which will now shepherd the $20 million project through a series of phased steps leading to the center’s eventual construction.

The consensus top pick is the South Kitsap Community Event Center, a proposed $20 million conference and event center in downtown Port Orchard.

“The takeaway from all this is that South Kitsap finished No. 1 in the ranking,” Sego said. “The expectation is that provides us the certainty that we’ll be funded. PORT OF BREMERTON ANNOUNCES PUBLIC PARTNERSHIP

In its resolution, the commissioners stated that the Port’s status as a public partner in the project “will assist with the effort to identify and secure funding for the CEC [community events center] project, including local, state and federal grant sources, private benefactors and other appropriate sources for the funding of the project.”
